What is a smart pallet and how does it work?
A smart pallet looks like an ordinary pallet, but inside it carries a set of connected sensors that turn every load into a stream of real-time data about where your goods are and the conditions they travel in.
From a passive platform to a connected device
Traditional pallets are invisible once they leave the warehouse. A smart pallet, by contrast, integrates GPS, temperature, humidity, weight and impact sensors together with a cellular or 5G module. That means you always know the location of a shipment and whether it has been exposed to conditions that could damage the product.
What a smart pallet measures
- Location — live GPS position and route history.
- Temperature and humidity — critical for food, pharma and electronics.
- Weight — detect loading errors or missing units.
- Shock and tilt — know if a load was dropped or mishandled.
Why it matters
With this data flowing to a cloud dashboard, logistics teams can react before a problem becomes a loss: reroute a delayed shipment, flag a temperature excursion, or prove chain-of-custody to a customer. The pallet stops being a cost and becomes a source of visibility and control across the whole supply chain.
